It’s been a busy week catching up with friends and a fun dinner last night too. Tonight, I decided to come back to the mountains, but I didn’t want to leave you all without Lincoln’s Manhattan recipe. I want Cindy in Pikeville, Kentucky to look at a dress that may need hemmed, and the talent and Cindy’s of the world are slowly disappearing. Being 5’3 can cause difficulties, and I don't think there is anyone in Lexington like her. So, I came back. I hate saying I will do these things like publish a Manhattan recipe the next day then not following through. So, I dragged all of Lincoln’s ingredients here and sat down with my Manhattan, a marker, and speak your piece. It’s a pretty good combination. I tracked all of my ingredients down at Total Wine in the end.
Lincoln’s recipe is really almost identical to mine, but it’s very very good. I love rye whiskey in a Manhattan. He uses a bit more than me at 3 oz. The same orange and angostura bitters, but he adds a dash ish of Fee’s Cherry Bitters. I have added Rhubarb bitters to the Sazeracs before, but this is truly very good. We both agree they have to have Luxardo cherries. So, here goes his recipe and i’ll follow with my favorite of Speak Your Piece. They are wild as hell tonight. Note. Lincoln is British hence the name.
Lincoln’s London Manhattan
3 oz rye whiskey old forester
1 oz Carpano Antica vermouth
1 -2 dashes orange Regan's
1 -2 dashes angostura bitters
1 dash Fee’s cherry bitters
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the 3 oz. of old forester rye. The carpano antica (the best vermouth) 1 oz., 2 dashes of Regan's orange bitters, 2 dashes of angostura bitters, and a dash ish of Fee's Cherry Bitters. Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice. Add all ingredients to the cup. Stir until the outside of the metal is frosted and very cold. Stir until the sides are car window scrape-able cold and iced over. Strain into your glass. a short rocks glass or a coupe. Add one Luxardo cherry.
Hope you try these this weekend and throughout the fall. And here is mine in case :
Otherwise, here are some other things i’ve ordered or bought recently :
Drinking French by David Lebovitz
A new tea I read about from Skye Mcalpine:
Excited to try this:
And I grabbed some allium bulbs at Lowe’s. I really want more than this, but adding a few of anything is still progress. And it feels good to plant what is the equivalent to a seed for the future :
Thinking too about adding these to the 6 new trees in the garden:
Tree bags to add to the base of the trees to keep them watered throughout Winter and into Spring.
Otherwise, dahlias’s from the garden. Probably some of the last :
And the Manhattan, of course.
Hope you’re well this weekend,
Alex ❤️
