A bit about The Mischief Maker.
Just wanted to hop on and introduce myself for those of you who may or may not know my origin story and what im planning next.
Hello guys,
Last night was Halloween. I wanted to hop on here and share a bit about myself, how I got here, and what I hope we are building here together (Lissa said my miss America moment 😂) in the video above. Basically, a bit about what I've been up to lately. While I'm still doing cakes and will anywhere in the country, I've taken some time off to diversify (do some art gallery shows) and make this newsletter.
I am thrilled and hope the sugar flowers resonate with people, but I wanted to go beyond that. The newsletter brings people directly into the garden and kitchen. In one way, it is a contemporary glance at historical sugar art. In the 18th century, confectioners lived and worked in their environments with the inspiration growing directly outside the kitchen door. My dream was always to live and work in my own environment here at home. My sugar flowers are copied seasonally piece by piece, stamen by stamen, from flowers grown in my own garden. I am working in a living artist studio where the garden directly inspires my sugar art. I can't show you how to make the sugar flowers (and quite frankly I wouldn't want to as I view my work separate from my life and what inspires me and each time I sit down to make a flowers it's different), but I can give you the things that I use in my personal life to make life better and more fun. These things directly inspire me and my work. I want to learn from people, and I wanted this newsletter to belong to all of us as a community as a way to be able to share ideas that would enhance our personal lives, including mine. The newsletter is an inside look at not just the process of making my art and sculpting my flowers, but gardening, cooking, and entertaining.
There have been lots of changes happening, and things in the works. More irons in the fire than one would imagine, so I have high hopes that everything will come together as one cohesive sort of entity. Workshops will be coming soon too. I wish I had gotten it together to do one where we plan and pick the bulbs for the Spring garden and sip some cocktails or wine as we pick what to order as a tiny group. Maybe we still can ! My goal with those is to share an an experience with small groups here at home where we can learn and grow from each other . And conversationally I can't wait to hear what stories I'll be told once those start. I like having people here, good energy, and feel like there is something to be gained from every interesting conversation you have with someone. Write me if you'd be interested in that bulb planning night, however ! Happy to get a small group together. I'm also working on publishing a book. I wrote it last winter, and am still looking for the right literary agent to take it on. So, if you know anyone ! 😂. Let me know.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone that subscribes. I wanted to share this with you. Please keep sharing any of these posts that resonate with you! It means more than you know and helps spread the word. As I mentioned above, with Mocha's vet bills that will be incoming, every paid subscription will about go directly to her ! Have loved having you all so far and have learned so much already.
Alex
