I just got home from the UK game with my friend Stacy and her mother and wanted something quick to eat. So, I heated up the skillet with some olive oil. Got the pan hot and cooked some sunny side up eggs over medium heat until the whites were set. I decided after that I wanted either a dirty martini or to take the night off sans cocktail. I know. A rarity. I mixed up this virgin Bloody Mary with v8 juice I had in my pantry, olive juice, tapatio hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Topped it with some blue cheese olives. Some of which I actually had a better brand of in the fridge . This is good. Yes, I know this could be more complicated, so you free ball it how you’d like on your version. It’s pretty damn delicious. The v8 seems more complex than tomato juice (and you get a serving of vegetables!) I think that Tapatio is THE hot sauce for a Bloody Mary. And Lea & Perrins is the only brand of Worcestershire. My opinion. My friend Hunter said her grandmother Beef called virgin bloody mary’s, bloody shames. So, here goes.
Bloody Shame
1 can V8 (this is the full sodium but I did recently also have the low sodium for health purposes. Was trying these out as a pantry experiment)
Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
Olive Brine from the jar
Fill a glass with ice. Add one can of v8. A hefty pour of olive brine. Lots of dashes of Worcestershire sauce. And lots of tapatio to taste. Top with two blue cheese or other olives.
If you want to add prepared horseradish do so. Or a squeeze of lemon. I just was working with the fridge tonight. OR add vodka or tequila if you’d like. (Technically, I could have added the squeeze of lemon.) I read on a website earlier a pinch of Old Bay and that could be interesting as well.
Sorry, this is not a precise one. But i’m confident you can eyeball it out.
Pair with Nina Simone, Melody Gardot, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Norah Jones. Ok, and maybe a little Amy Winehouse.
I'll try to upload the new Speak Your Piece tomorrow.
