Habanero Margaritas
This could not be easier... try this easy twist on my classic margarita recipe.
So, this is pretty simple and straight forward. I made my normal margarita recipe. With tequila this time and not Mezcal. And added one chopped up habanero from the garden and shook for 10-20 seconds. I don’t see any point in making infusions etc. It all seems like a waste of time. This is spicy ! And fast ! I did the whole habanero sliced and threw it in my shaker for one drink. But if you’re faint of heart on the spice try a half. My friend Kate came to visit from Hazard recently. She saw the habaneros overflowing in a pot on my back deck and suggested this idea.
Habanero Margarita
This is my mom’s pick of one of her favorites that I make her. She likes it with Mezcal or just tequila. She said, “They are good. I can only have one of those.”
2 oz Tequila (Or Mezcal)
1 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
1 oz Cointreau (You can also use Triple Sec or a different orange liqueur)
1 Habanero (half a habanero for one person or a whole. I did a whole, but I love spice)
Take a cut lime wedge and go around the rim of your glass. Put Maldon sea salt in a plate and go around the edge of your glass. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Fill with the tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau and your pepper. You shake it until it is very cold. Strain and pour into the salt-rimmed glasses. No ice in the coupe.
Cocktail Tip: You always strain any cocktail made with citrus. You should really double strain it. That means you pour it out of the cocktail shaker spout into a tiny mesh strainer into the glass. BUT I don’t ever do that when I make margaritas.
The OG recipe :
Have one before you have the chicken thighs I just posted if you want a spice night to raise your vibration.
