Manhattans with The Mischief Maker
Sharing a recipe from one of my favorite cocktail books. It's cute, but don't let it fool you!
Manhattan
Another great cocktail for fall and winter is a Manhattan.
My Manhattan is from a book called Around the World in 80 Cocktails by Chad Parkhill. It’s such a cute book, that you will debate if the recipes are as good as it is adorable, but I assure you every one is a winner. It’s great to keep around as reference, and the recipes will satisfy even the biggest cocktail snob. This is the recipe I’d make if I were giving the drink to bourbon enthusiasts, but also people who may not favor bourbon as much. It’s a touch sweeter, but I will include a boozier version for bourbon lovers following. Both are excellent, I love them both. The bottom one is stronger.
Link to the book:
Manhattan
1.5 fl oz. rye whiskey (I use Sazerac Rye usually, and like it best, but any nice bourbon will do Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey works well too.)
1.5 fl oz. sweet red vermouth (I use Dolin, but also Martini & Rossi Rosso will do just fine too)
1 dash orange bitters (I use Reagan’s Orange Bitters)
1 dash aromatic bitters (I use Angostura Bitters)
1-3 Luxardo Cherries to garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice. Add all ingredients to the cup.
Stir until the outside of the metal is frosted and very cold. Strain into a short rock’s glass or a coupe. Add 1-3 Luxardo cherries.
A Stronger, Yet Very Balanced Manhattan below. This one is for your bourbon lovers and enthusiasts.
I hope you’re having a good Tuesday night.
