I love a snow day, because I love that feeling of everyone being trapped in equally as it's the only time that I don't have a fear of missing out 🤣. I can settle into just being home, enjoy making dinner at night, and all the rituals in the day along the way.
I’ve been busy thinking for most of the morning, making some idea lists for the newsletter, but I thought i’d go ahead and post the newest Speak Your Piece.
^ Dad’s Christmas window this year. Is it a window or a display? 🤣. It seems to have expanded to the top of the building. I wonder sometimes why I felt brave enough to do all of this wild card stuff with my career. But i’ll just be honest, they checked me out of school and I often slept on the lawn in gossamer while Mom and Dad worked on whatever the current project was. A float or fundraisers in progress.
There are many more. Need to dig up some pictures.
^ Jason, my friend and neighbor that lives near us on Mamaw’s hill, and I checking it out over Christmas.
Ok more Speak Your Piece
Other snippets from Christmas. We did find Santa. Apparently, he comes to Whitesburg, Kentucky every Christmas Eve. Never knew this. We have always been in Jenkins at Mamaw’s, so we have always missed him. Jason indulged me in going to find him. We knew it was either Santa with a police escort or a drug bust with all the lights.
^ Dolly Parton on a lamp post.
That’s all i’ve got for you today, i’m afraid. I made a spicy chickpea stew last night and while it was decently good, it didn’t blow my mind. The roasted winter vegetable salad I posted does! So, while I continue to light the taper candles each night as I cook, I settled for a shot of fernet and a gin rather than something more romantic last night 🤣.
It had the makings:
But i’d have been happy to just eat the roasted butternut squash off the tray and called it a day 😆.
On the whole after dinner is over, I have been settling in to watch some movies. Still on a Jane Birkin kick. Slogan (1969) and an oddball romantic comedy. Happy Accidents are some of the latest.
